I was driving home, last night, peering into the snow-covered hedges, hoping that I’d see a stray dog and be able to help. I know the dogs are out there but, most of the time, people just ignore them.

A new product from the USA could help reduce the number of dogs that remain lost and wandering. The Global Pet Finder is a, somehwat chunky, device that attaches to your dog’s collar. Using the same global positioning technology as car satellite navigation systems, it tracks your dog’s movements and will alert your mobile phone if the dog strays from an area you define. Through a text message, the system gives you the address of your mutt’s current location and even measures the temperature, alerting you if things are getting too hot or cold.
